EXPIRED: 09/13/09 – Barbara Collier, 63, was the heart & soul of a San Francisco soup kitchen for 30 years. When it threatened with closure, she raised $1 million to keep it open.
She cooked, clean, raised money and kept the books for Martin de Porres House of Hospitality, a soup kitchen for the homeless.
Collier invited Mother Teresa to come see the work they were doing and when she saw the garden, the clean quarters and comfortable rooms she wept. The Dalai Lama visited too, but I am not sure if he cried.
Collier worked 3-4 days a week until her death. And she was just a volunteer!
