EXPIRED: 10/20/09 – Margaret Fitzgerald, 113, was a Canadian supercentenarian who was the oldest person in Canada from 2007 until her death in 2009. She attained this title at age 110 years 124 days, after the death of 115-year old fellow Canadian, Julie Winnefred Bertrand, on January 18, 2007.

She grew up on a farm in Tankville, New Brunswick, and moved to Moncton where she took a job as an office assistant to Dr. Reginald Fitzgerald.

Office romance even happened way back then and she became the good doctor’s wife. The couple later moved to the French islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, where Reginald continued his medical practice, and resided there until Reginald’s death.

When he died, Margaret moved back to New Brunswick, where she operated a convenience store.
