EXPIRED: 11/08/09 – Jerry Fuchs, 34, drummed his way from Athens, Georgia to Williamsburg, Brooklyn where he finally found a place to call home. Unfortunately it’s also the same neighborhood where the talented drummer’s life came to an end. Fuchs fell to his death on Sunday morning in the elevator shaft of an industrial building near the Williamsburg Bridge.
Fuchs had just left a party on the building’s seventh floor, was stuck on a freight elevator between the fourth and fifth floors. He had been trying to jump out of the stalled car when his clothing snagged causing him to fall to the bottom of the shaft. Another man, riding in the elevator, safely jumped to a hallway.
Mr. Fuchs grew up in Marietta, Ga., and attended the University of Georgia, in Athens. He moved to New York in 1995 to join the band, Vineland. He also drummed for the Juan MacLean, Turing Machine, Holy Ghost!, Maserati, LCD Soundsystem, and !!! (pronounced Chk Chk Chk).
Recently, he performed with an electronic band from Toronto, MSTRKRFT, on the “Late Show With David Letterman.”
