EXPIRED: 01/17/10 – Dave Genden, 97, was a character all the way to the end.
By day he was a landscaper to Florida’s wealthy, working hard and winning awards for landscape design.
But Genden was a rebel!
But before he had a legit business, creating manicured lawns for judges, politicians and businessmen, Genden ran a South Beach pool hall, catering to Miami’s gangster clientele.
As a kid Genden cut classes and hitched rides with truckers he’d meet at his mother’s gas station, eventually sending his teachers “Wish you were here” postcards from far-flung destinations.
As a young father he’d drive from Miami to Mexico to watch a bullfight.
At 70, he climbed Machu Picchu.
And in his 90’s he got his ear pierced so he could wear the diamond stud earring his girlfriend gave him.
More power to you, Dave. Rest In peace.
