RIP – CLAYTON GEREIN


EXPIRED: 01/22/10 – Clayton, Gerein, 45, was a 7-time Paralympian who was among the torch-bearers as the 2010 Olympic flame passed thru Regina, Canada on January 9th even though a brain tumor was taking what was left of his life.

Many participants and fans did not know of Gerein’s life threatening condition.

Gerein suffered a broken neck in 1982 while training racehorses, but was a swimmer when he competed at the 1984 Paralympics.

Later, Gerein was the Paralympic’s male athlete-of-the-year in 1987, 1996 and 2001 won seven gold, four silver and three bronze medals while in a wheelchair.

He retired from competitive racing after the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing to volunteer with the Canadian Paraplegic Association and encouraged people with disabilities to pursue their goals.
