EXPIRED: 01/30/10 – Pauly Fuemana, 40, was 50% of the New Zealand musical duo OMC which was short for Otara Millionaire’s Club. The full name of the band is a tongue-in-cheek reference to Otara’s status as one of the poorest suburbs of Auckland. But Fuemana made a ton of cash from growing up so poor. How bizarre…
In 1995 OMC shot to fame with the single “How Bizarre” which reached number one in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and parts of Europe.
Their album, also titled “How Bizarre,” wasNew Zealand’s biggest-selling record.
Fuemana was the frontman and played much of the original instrumentation. Partner Alan Jansson co-wrote all the tracks and produced the duo’s albums. The band broke up in 2000, but Fuemana used the group’s acronym as a solo artist. They reformed in 2007 and released a single 4 All of Us, featuring actor Lucy Lawless, but it failed to make a mark and Fuemana sank into obscurity once again.
He died after a short illness.
