EXPIRED: 02/03/10 – Frances Reid, 95, had, since the beginning of time, it seems, played Alice Horton on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, the 3rd longest running soap opera in the United States since it began in November 1965. Reid first appeared in the television version of the radio soap opera Portia Faces Life from 1954 to 1955. She next portrayed Grace Baker on As The World Turns from 1959 to 1962, and Rose Pollack on The Edge of Night in 1964.
She was actually hesitant to accept the role in Days of Our Lives, which she played for more than four decades.
Reid later appeared in the 1966 movie “Seconds” with Rock Hudson and the 1971 movie “The Andromeda Strain.”
In the early 90’s Reid suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. She returned to work after achieving a near-complete recovery.
She was awarded the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 and was inducted in to the Television Academy Archives in 2003. She won awards for Outstanding Actress in a Mature Role in Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1978, 1979, 1984 and 1985.
Reid was married to actor Philip Bourneuf for 39 years until his death in 1979.
