RIP – ANDREW KOENIG

EXPIRED: 02/25/10 – Andrew Koenig, 41, was the son of actor Walter Koenig, known for his role Pavel Chekov in Star Trek. The younger Koenig followed his dad’s footsteps and went into acting himself, finding minor success on the hit TV program Growing Pains, where he played the best friend, “Boner” to the star of the program Kirk Cameron’s character Mike Seaver.

He also had parts in other forgettable TV shows, including My Sister Sam, My Two Dads and 21 Jump Street before moving into voiceover work and independent films.

When that work dried up he moved into directing and editing – most recently editing a video podcast.

Sounds depressing? You don’t know the half of it.

Koenig was reported missing by friends and family in mid February. He left his home in Los Angeles, having told his landlord that he wouldn’t be renewinghis lease. And he turned down a recent job offer stating he wouldn’t be working again. Then he went to visit friends in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He missed a scheduled flight back to the US on February 16.

On February 25, 2010, it was reported by CNN that his body was found by friends searching for him in Stanley Park in Vancouver. Police later confirmed Koenig’s body was found earlier in the day, and Koenig’s father told reporters at an evening press conference that his son had committed suicide.
