EXPIRED: 03/10/10 – Corey Haim, 38, found fame in movies far too young, did drugs to be cool, and simply didn’t know how to deal with his addiction to either. You saw it coming.
He was found dead in his mother’s apartment near Burbank, California of an apparent overdose of prescription meds.
Haim was among a group of teenage actors who were seen to be the up and coming stars of Hollywood. In 1984 he got his first movie credit appearing alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. in “First Born.”
Two years later he was starring in the high school romance flick “Lucas,” and shortly after that was his breakout role in “Lost Boys” featuring his longtime screen partner Corey Feldman and pre-24’s, Kiefer Sutherland. Hits like “License to Drive,” and “Dream a Little Dream” gave him the money to dabble in drugs and the clout to dabble in models (who liked guys who dabbled in drugs). It was during this time that he reportedly was shagging Victoria Beckham, a pre-posh Posh Spice.
After checking into and out of rehab, he hooked up again with Feldman, only slightly more successful in my opinion, for the A&E reality show “The Two Coreys” in 2007 chronicling their struggles as adults in Hollywood.
Shame really. Roger Ebert once had this to say about the young actor: “He creates one of the most three-dimensional, complicated, interesting characters of any age in any recent movie. If he can continue to act this well, he will never become a half-forgotten child star, but will continue to grow into an important actor. He is that good”
RIP Corey (not you Feldman)
