RIP – DIXIE CARTER

EXPIRED: 04/10/10 – Dixie Carter, 70, had a successful run from 1986 – 1993 as Julia Sugarbaker on the TV show Designing Women. But her most successful move on that show was meeting her husband, Hal Holbrook, who had a small guest appearance on the show at first and instead stayed on to be her partner in life from then on.

Carter, who got her start in the spotlight as a runner up in the Miss Tennessee beauty pageant in 1959, made her mark in TV in daytime soaps as Brandy Henderson on The Edge Of Night back in the 60’s.  She also appeared on The Doctors and filled for Nancy Pinkerton as Dorian on One Life To Live in 1974, while Pinkerton was on maternity leave.

In 2007 she earned an Emmy nomination portraying the not so nice Gloria Hodge on Desperate Housewives.

She also can be found on reruns of Differnt Strokes, Filthy Rich, On Our Own and scores of other shows.

In recent years she has appeared in the films That Evening Sun and Our First Christmas.
