EXPIRED: 06/10/11 – Al Schwimmer, 94, was the father of the Israeli Air Force, but was convicted of violating the US Neutrality Acts for smuggling 30 planes into Israel during the 1948 War. He was fined $10K but did no prison time. Since he refused to admit any wrongdoing so never sought a presidential pardon, but Bill Clinton pardoned him anyway nearly 50 yrs later. In his late 80s he was awarded Israel’s highest honor, the Israel Prize. He died on his birthday.
