EXPIRED: 08/24/11 – Janey Cutler, 82, wowed the UK when she had a dream come true. A music lover, Cutler was a regular at a local Scotland pub where she sang karaoke versions of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Shirley Bassey. Last year, the singing grandmother auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent, the amateur talent competition run by Simon Cowell.
Her performance of Edith Piaf’s “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” stunned the TV audience and judge Peirs Morgan called it ‘spine tingling.’ The next day, a video of her rendition got an immediate 700,000 hits on YouTube.
Cutler didn’t win the competition – she placed 9th – but despite fears for her health at the time, she went on to perform on a live national tour. At 81, she recorded a CD of standards and was touted as the next Susan Boyle.
Survived by 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, Cutler had no regrets. At the end of her life, she fulfilled a life’s dream.
